Self Experiment: Hallucinations

Self Experiment: Hallucinations "Nutmeg"

Start Date: 7-19-13
Start Time: 2:00pm

Dosage: 3 1/2 tablespoons of ground nutmeg* suspended in 8oz glass of water. Remainder particles washed down with an additional 8oz of water.
*Ground nutmeg was mixed with water to avoid choking.

Hypothesis: What would a hallucination be like compared to abduction or ghostly experience?
Using a common non-narcotic substance to induce a hallucination, could I reproduce these experiences?
It is known that bewteen 3-4.5 tablespoons of nutmeg are reported to cause giddiness and hallucination by stimulating the motor cortex. The effects very from person to person. It is estimated that after the initial dosage, it may take up to 5 hours to have any effect. Symptoms may last for a few days.

Review:
The initial ingestion of the ground nutmeg was difficult and had to be spoon feed as soup. It tasted minty and peppery. It was mildly hard to consume.

The first visual alterations occurred around 3 hrs and 42 min. These were minor alteration which increase the color receptivity of the red/orange/yellow wavelengths of light. Additional Florescent colors were also increase in receptivity. Lasted a total of 4 hours 18 min.

The second visual alterations occurred around 4 hrs and 15 min, which made me sensitive to light. This lasted 1 hour and 30 min.

The first physical effect occurred around 4 hrs and 15 min, which made me drowsy. This lasted 1 hour and 30 min.

The second physical effect occurred around 8 hrs, which made me physically energized as I was restless in a nervous manner. This lasted 23 min.

The second physical effect occurred around 9 hrs 30 min, which made me physically energized as I was restless in a nervous manner. This lasted 50 min.
No other unusual effect occurred past the 24 hour marker, nor the 36 hour marker.

Results:
These very minor visual and physical alterations were chemically induced and had physical effects. The hyper receptivity to red/yellow/orange colors and sensitivity to light would not lead me to draw parallels between this experience and those concurrent with alien abductions or apparitions.
- Manifestations of either phenomena are usually dull, shadowy, or normal. Only color receptivity is within the blue and white spectrum.
-The Light Sensitivity is not typical with this phenomena.

The physical symptoms of drowsiness and hyper-activity are likewise not concurrent alien abduction phenomena, but drowsiness can be with ghostly phenomena.

-When dealing with ghosts, people often report that heir energy is drained, which felt like this when I did experience several ghostly encounters. I felt drained and tried.
-The hyper-activity however was never experienced in a abduction scenario or with an apparition.

So it seems that an overdose of nutmeg can cause minor alterations to visual and physical attributes, but none that match up with my known alien abduction experiences. However, the dosage of nutmeg did make me drowsy which felt similar to being drained from a paranormal entity. Although in my experience with paranormal I have not ingested nutmeg at those periods, nor did it occur when a possible minor dose of nutmeg could have present in my food (holiday seasons).

At this point I would conclude that a physically induced hallucination is not comparative to the paranormal or extraterrestrial experience.

  1. Oh... I would never try that. Nutmeg is toxic in that amounts.
