Extraterrestrial officially releases in the fall of 2014, set for theatrical release November 11th..
The film itself pays homage to a number of Sci-Fi and alien movie references, such as "Fire in the Sky", "Aliens", "Communion", "The McPhearson Tape", "Evil Dead", "E.T.", and "X-Files" to name a few.
The story revolves around three groups of people. Sheriff Murphy who has been investigating the disappearances and animal mutilation for over the past decade in the country town. He suspects that his missing girlfriend may have meet the same fate a decade earlier.
The second group is a a young couple, April and Kyle, who need to go to their parent's country cabin.
April parents are finalizing a divorce and they need to take pictures of the property. Kyle invites his friend Seth and Lex, along with April's sister Melanie and dog along for the trip. Kyle plans to propose to April,
but things get stressful once that happens..
The third individual is Travis. A neighbor and U.S. veteran who is growing pot and believe the whole area is where the government is conducting tests. He is a conspiracy theorist and is out there do to things he knows or the pot he smokes.
The story escalates when during a thunderstorm, a fireball crashes to the forest. The Kyle and his friend investigate and soon find a down UFO. They are a bit drunk, but have enough sense to get out of there.
They head back to the cabin, but soon the power is cut, and something enters the house. The dogs struggles with something as they hide in the basement. When it goes quiet the emerge and check around the house.
During the walk through they encounter an alien outside the kitchen and fire a shotgun. The creatures is wounded, it stumble to the pool where they find it. Panicking they decided to leave and head back to town.
Unfortunately they are being watched by an UFO, which they are forced to flee into the woods. They head to their neighbor Travis' home in hope he may have answers.
Soon their they are also attacked by aliens. Travis gives them as much time to flee back to their cabin while he attacks the aliens who intruded upon his property. Sheriff Murphy in the mean time comes upon an abandoned campsite finding one survivor in the RV. She explains that aliens took her family. He wraps things up at the site and decides to check out the cabin where Kyle and April are at. There the young people board up the cabin as they fear the aliens will stop at nothing to get them. They are surprised when the Sheriff shows up.
As one can imagine from here things go badly as the Aliens attacks again. eventually most people are killed or abducted. The type of aliens show here are the greys, but tall one that seem very feral. They can growl and have very sharp claws. They also demonstrate their psychic abilities. However, keen observer will note that there is a secondary species of grey... the very tall white wispy kind. Viewers should not that the alien shot initially and fell in the pool, as well as the one shown in the final scene during the Army and FBI... are not the greys that are seen throughout the rest of the movie? That is a mystery which is not explained.
Overall the movie does have some moments in which it is a basic young adult horror flick, but it snaps you back to the fact that there are some really nasty evil aliens out there.Most of the tricks they show is nothing new, but is a montage of popular culture "Alien/UFO" information but in an entertaining format.
