Are they Monsters, Aliens, or fellow beings?

If a reflection of our awareness of what is really going on is shown in mass media, there has been a shift over the past few years on how we view "Intelligent Aliens". For the most part, aliens in media have been depicted as civilized like ourselves, but of course different. They usually appear humanoid and seem to be more advanced. There have been a few reports of "feral" types, but they usually behave in a manner we would relate to on some level. The non-humanoid aliens, such as H.G. Wells "Martian" even behaved in a manner that would seem acceptable, although they were very very different.

In the past twenty years we have been introduced to a new type of a alien, one I think has been manufactured by our media. Aliens themselves are considered movies monsters and have joined the ranks of the zombies, vampires, werewolves, witches, ghost, monsters, witches, gods, angels and demons.  They are no longer a "new culture" to be encountered as older sci-fi shows like Star Trek, Babylon 5, Stargate, Farscape, and Star Wars have depicted. They posses high technology, but are brutal and savage.
The first of these depictions could be started with the idea of the "Blob", "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers" where alien plant spores take over a planet, "Alien" that shows a very hostile xenoform that is parasitic and is savage, "Starship Troopers" showing intelligent insects who view is as a threat and simply combat us like they would a neighboring colony, then "Slither" is another example of a parasitic alien organism that destroys the planets population, and so on. Most of these depictions are all alien life forms, much like a kangaroo is compared to a human. Both are life forms, but one is considered to be a civilized culture.

However, lately there has been a shift in which the civilized ed "Aliens" known as the Greys are more savage.
Instead of being methodical and coming in various types, they have become a standard tall thin being with black eyes. They are highly aggressive, either using amazing mental powers to effect their environment through psychokinetic energy and manipulating individuals through telepathy or simple going feral like like some sort of ninja werewolf where they are aggressively busting up doors and climbing walls. Why the change over to a monster instead of a being that we could possibly talk too?

I could blame Hollywood and say its our culture attempt to unite us with a common enemy, especially since we can longer look among ourselves due to "Political correctness". With people having more and more contact and realizing that we are being visited, perhaps our government is trying to put fear into us.... letting us know that these beings are evil and can only be "negotiated" by the right party (Uncle Sam).
Honestly I prefer the idea of aliens being like those on Star Trek or Farscape, those who I can one day hope to exchange culture and knowledge in the hope of mutual benevolence. However, like ourselves there will be twists, as no one group can ever speak for the interstellar community (let alone a species) as a whole.
I am an abductee....it has been against my will all of my life. It would be nice to find  someone who would rather see me as an individual, rather than experiment #USACALA32175(m).
