Movies: The Man of Steel

The story of Superman is well known. A character of the DC comics universe, was re-imagined over the course of generations since 1934 to become an icon in popular culture. The story Kal-El, or Clark Kent as he is named on Earth, is a story about a survivor from a dying world known as Krypton that is sent to Earth.
He is sent by his parents in hopes that he would find sanctuary on a planet, the cast him out into the stars in hopes that their child would survive. The ship eventually crash landed in Kansas, U.S.A. and was found by a local farming family known as the Kents. They adopted the child and raised him as their own, hiding the spaceship, and trying to control the alien baby. They provided their adopted son a loving home and bought him up with kind and wholesome values. Eventually young Clark discovers the truth and sets out to find answers as to who is and why he has all this powers. Eventually he becomes one of the most beloved heroes on earth.

The re-imagining of the 2013 "The Man of Steel" movie looks at a darker side of Superman  origin. That he is in fact an "alien". The opening scene in which we see some back story of Krypton is very reminiscent of the "Martian Chronicles". We find that krypton follow a "caste" system and that they have evolved beyond the means of basic breeding. Children are genetically engineered with birthing chambers based off the DNA of an ancient kryptonian. Their lives are predetermined as certain bloodlines are created to fulfill the hierarchy of the caste system. The society itself is on a verge of collapse as centuries of space exploration and technological development have drained the planet of its resources. The DNA is considered to be stagnant as much of the culture, and most willing accept their fate and just die seeing it as an end of an epoch.
On earth, "Clark" has to deal with the fact that he is different. As a child is body to adjust to earth's atmosphere and climate. During this time his genetics were being mutated as do to the difference in environment which explain his exceptional abilities. Clark goes through what many "Star Children" experience, as they are bombarded with the fact that they are different.
It is during Clark's wandering years as a young adult that it gets creepy. He gets wind that the Government has discovered a UFO buried in the arctic ice. Clark some how realizes it may be Kryptonian in origin and makes his way there. He activates the ship and soon hides. The government covers up their findings of a UFO and disavows all knowledge of any discovery. A few months latter a UFO is spotted in orbit around the moon. Within days the UFO makes contact with earth, intercepting all communication feeds with a message of "You are not Alone". The aliens let earth know that they are looking for a refuge and want him back. When we are introduced to the "Aliens", the body armor is dark and opaque... the helmet oddly menacing. When Clark is finally introduced to the Kryptonians we find that they have the ability to mental project into people's minds, much like the telepathic abilities of the grey. When we further see examples of the heat vision, the presentation is similar to that of  the hybrids in "The Village of the Damned" when using their psychic abilities.
The Kryptonians we find out seem to have an agenda that most people fear about aliens. They want to colonize earth. Here we have Kryptonians terraformaing the planet, changing the atmosphere and environment on a global scale. These caste of kryptonians only want to conquer and preserve Krypton, and with the movie's explanation of their culture are very much like the greys in the sense that there are groups with specific agendas. Even with the appearance of Jor-El, Clark's true father, he claims to want a "Hybrid" culture built on earth... one in which krypton DNA  can be married to the planets inhabitants. Where a new Krypton could be built which is a hybrid of earth and krypton.
